
Guy Mentel
Congressional Staffer, U.S. CongressGuy has spent his career in the public and private sector focusing on issues central to Western Hemisphere affairs. Prior to assuming his current role, Guy served as Senior Policy Advisor in the U.S. Mission to the Organization of American States in the Western Hemisphere Affairs Bureau of the U.S. State Department. In that role, Guy worked on issues ranging from deepening hemispheric engagement through multilateral diplomacy; defending rule of law and democratic institutions; and human rights, development, cybersecurity, and citizen security.
Prior to joining the State Department, Guy served as President and Chief Legal Officer of Global Americans, a think tank committed to promoting democracy, development, and human rights in the Western Hemisphere. In that role, Guy wrote and spoke extensively about hemispheric affairs, and regularly convened meetings, summits, and conferences with heads of state, cabinet-level ministers, governors, mayors, presidential candidates, and civil society leaders in the Americas to address some of the biggest challenges in our hemisphere.
Prior to joining Global Americans, Guy held multiple positions in the United States Senate, working in the Office of Senator Tim Kaine and working on the Senate Judiciary Committee for Senator Patrick Leahy. Guy has worked on Latin America policy for four high-profile political campaigns in the United
States. In 2014-2015, Guy worked for the Cyrus R. Vance Center for international Justice in Bogota, Colombia, where he worked on transitional justice issues related to the Colombian armed conflict.
Guy has also worked at the law firm, Kobre & Kim LLP, and clerked at the Military Commissions Defense Organization of the Department of Defense. Guy earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, with a certificate in WTO and International Trade Studies, and his B.A. from Georgetown
University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude.
