Representative Adriano Espaillat represents New York\u2019s 13th Congressional District, covering Harlem, Washington Heights, Inwood, and parts of the Bronx. Elected in 2016, he is the first Dominican American and first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n
Now in his fifth term, he serves on the House Appropriations Committee, is Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee, and was elected Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for the 119th Congress.
\nEspaillat has championed legislation to improve healthcare transparency, infrastructure, and Social Security access, while securing billions in federal funding for New York, including for the Second Avenue Subway expansion. His Holcombe Rucker Park bill, designating the Harlem landmark as a
\nnational commemorative site, passed Congress in 2024.<\/p>\n
A longtime advocate for working- and middle-class families, he prioritizes affordable housing, fair wages, education, and criminal justice reform. Before Congress, he served in the New York State Senate and Assembly, becoming the first Dominican American elected to a state legislature. Earlier in his career, he led community-based organizations supporting victims\u2019 services, criminal justice reform, and substance abuse prevention.<\/p>\n
