Mariangela Parra-Lancourt

Mariangela Parra-Lancourt is the new Chief of the Strategic Engagement and Policy Integration Branch in the Financing for Sustainable Development Office in DESA. She leads the organization of the intergovernmental Forum on Financing for Development, the SDG Investment Fair and the support to the Global Investors for Sustainable Development. She was the lead at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General on the Financing for Development in the Era of COVID-19 and Beyond, convened by the Secretary-General and the Prime Ministers of Canada and Jamaica, and that spearheaded the quick and comprehensive response of the UN System to the pervasive socio-economic effects of the pandemic. She has performed diverse roles in her 20 years at the United Nations, including leading the work on technology and policy at the Economic Analysis and Policy Division, as senior officer in the Executive Office of the Secretary General, special assistant to the Assistant-Secretary General for Economic Development, inter-regional adviser for UNDESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs), Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean Executive Secretary. In Colombia, her country of origin, she served as adviser to the Minister of Transportation and worked in public–private partnerships in investment banking. Her publications and professional experience include international trade and economic development, governance, climate change, the sharing economy, macroeconomic insecurity, international finance and international cooperation in technology and taxation, among other areas. She holds a PhD in Economics at the New School University in New York.
