Ingo Pitterle

Senior Economic Affairs Officer, Global Economic Monitoring Branch, Economic Analysis and Policy Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UNDESA)

Ingo Pitterle has worked as an economist at DESA since 2008. He is a lead author of the United Nations’ annual flagship publication World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP). He is responsible for analyzing macroeconomic trends and policies in the global economy, with a particular focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. He is also in charge of linking economic issues to the wider sustainable development agenda. Ingo has published papers in the areas of international macroeconomics, financial crises and fiscal policies. He also serves as instructor of Political Economy Analysis courses for United Nations staff in field missions. Before joining DESA, Mr. Pitterle worked at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in Beirut, Lebanon. He prepared macroeconomic analyses for the member countries and was one of the lead authors of the Millennium Development Goals Report for the Arab Region. Mr. Pitterle is a national of Germany and holds a Ph.D. in Economics (“summa cum laude”) from the Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen, Germany.
