Laura Abreu Malla

Specialist on Educational Policies and Multisectorial Initiatives

Laura has had an active career in the field of education and governance in the Dominican Republic. Since 2012 she has been the coordinator for a Dominican program Iniciativa Dominicana por una Educación de Calidad (IDEC), which serves as a multisectoral space for civil society, business, government and international organizations to monitor the advancement of public education policies. She worked on the Ministry of Education’s planning group in the Dominican Republic, collaborating on the development of the strategic national plan for that ministry for 2017-2020. She created part of the practices for Education and Governance for the the World Bank in the Dominican Republic and the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) School on Human Development and Democratic Governance in Colombia. She has been a consultant for various projects with other international organizations and institutions on higher education in the last ten years. She is an active member of executive councils and was part of the Managing Commission for the Proposal for the Education Quality Assurance System in the Dominican Republic between 2016 and 2018. She has a bachelor’s in Education and master’s in Education Technology from Universidad de Salamanca and a master’s in Higher Education Administration from Boston College. She graduated from the Creating Collaborative Solutions program at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2018. Her interests focus on education policy, collaborative initiatives and social and cultural impact.
